Chapter 7: Shadows and tall trees   (civilization and savagery)

In chapter seven you really see the juxtaposition between civilization and savagery when Ralph is getting caught up in the exhilaration of hunting when jack challenges him. he goes from telling everyone we need to build a shelter and making sure the fire is still going, to throwing spears and boars and feeling the thrill of it. We chose the song "eye of the tiger" to represent the determination of hunters to kill. Some lyrics that represent the story are " It's the eye of the tiger its the thrill of the fight. Rising up to the challenge of our rival and the last known survivor, stalks the prey in the night." which depicts the scene where the boys go hunting in such a thrilling manner.

Chapter 8: gift from darkness

IN chapter eight jack has finally gone off on his own. The last thing he does  is try to convince people to join him and to be in charge of them. he does this by PERSUADING the kids with promises to kill the beast, hunt and have fun. we chose the song "we cant stop" by miley cyrus because it talks about challenging authority and wanting the freedom to do what they want . This is what jack wants to do. He is showing all the kids that ralph isn't in charge anymore. IN the song it says "its our house we can do what we want to, we can do what we want to :this is what jack is preaching to the kids, that they DON'T need rule and they can do what they want

Chapter 9 : A view to death  (the beast/lord of the flies is mentioned in here)

In chapter 9, simon is unconcious after seeing the lord of the flies. the lord of the flies tells him that he is the darkness that is inside each and every one of us.  Some of the other boys are chanting "kill the beast! cut his throat! spill his blood!" after they had captured a pig and bring it up to the feast.  When the feast is done they go hunting for the beast. The song lyrics "baby im preying on you tonight, hunt you down eat you alive. just like animals" describes the part of the book when the boys set out to find the beast, and mistakenly kill simon. The boys were given animalistic characteristics like hunting down and tearing him apart. the lyrics "you can't deny, the beast inside" complement goldings commentary on human nature that everyone is evil in the inside

Chapter 10 : The shell and the glass (symbolism of piggy's glasses)

IN this chapter the characters piggy and ralph are ashamed of killing simon, but piggy tries to say that it wasn't their fault and that they really thought he was a beast.  This shows piggy's wisdom even as a young boy. he knows what they have done yet he's trying to convince ralph and himself that it was just a mistake in identity.this is  A physical thing that shows the symbolism of his glasses and once those are taken  from him its harder for him to get back and confidence to speak his mind, but he still does. we chose the song fight song because  because it talks about fighting back when people tear you down. ' This is my fight song. take back my life song.. starting right now i'll be strong and i don't really care what anyone else believes" are all things that we feel piggy has had to say to himself to regain his confidence and to have courage to get his glasses back .

Chapter 11  Castle rock

in chapter 11 piggy wants to go to jack and get his glasses back and ralph and piggy bring the conch shell with them to. they get in a fight with jack and piggy is trying to reason with them and telling to quit their savage nonsense. While he holds the conch shell a boulder fell on him and killed him. the lyrics " i didn't mean to end his life, i know it wasn't right, i need to get out of sight before i end up in bars" illustrates how when Roger pushed the boulder off and killed piggy, something he didn't do intentionally. the lyrics "man down" fit with the chapter because they lost another one of the boys because of the uncivilized children

Chapter 12  Cry of the hunters

IN CHAPTER 12 , RALPH IS THE ONLY ONE WHO IS LEFT AGAINST JACK AND HIS TEAM. RALPH IS HIDING OUT IN CASTLE ROCK AND JACK PLANS TO SET THE ISLAND ON FIRE SO RALPH WILL COME OUT OF HIS HIDING SPOT. THE SONG QUOTES "DONT HIDE YOUR MISTAKES CAUSE THEY'LL FIND YOU BURN YOU" THIS PERFECTLY ILLUSTRATES HOW RALPH HID FROM JACK UNTIL HE PLANNED TO SET THE ISLAND ON FIRE. THE LYRICS " IF YOU WANT TO GET OUT ALIVE RUN FOR YOUR LIFE " DEPICTS THE SCENE WHERE RALPH STARTED TO RUN WHEN HE SAW FIRE ON THE ISLAND AND RAN INTO THE NAVY CAPTAIN .
